Queensland-based rail freight company Aurizon is encouraging community groups and charities affected by the weather impacts of Cyclone Debbie to apply for a grant through its Community Giving Fund.

Managing Director & CEO Andrew Harding said Aurizon is offering cash grants of up to $20,000 to assist eligible Queensland community groups in the recovery and rebuilding process.

Applications for the grants must be submitted by Friday, 2 June.

“Aurizon is a Queensland-based company with operations across the impacted areas and we are keen to support these communities to rebuild following this devastating weather event,” said Harding.

“The special round of funding was announced in early April, however we appreciate that many community groups and charities, who assisted in the clean-up and disaster recovery, are only now just realising what they might need additional funds for to rebuild.

“With only two weeks left until the round closes, we encourage eligible community groups, charities and not-for profits to apply for assistance online via the Aurizon website.”

The Community Giving Fund closes on 2 June 2017 and grants are being offered for relief or rebuilding projects in the areas of education, community safety, environment, and health and wellbeing. Exclusive to North, Central and South East Queensland communities impacted by the cyclone, this round is in addition to the annual two rounds of Aurizon’s national Community Giving Fund.
